Ensure your PC has a network card with an RJ45 (UTP) socket

Your PC will need a network card that has an RJ45/UTP socket.  Most new PCs are now supplied with this type of network card fitted.

If your PC doesn't already have one of these, you will need to purchase and fit a network card:

USB Network Connector: These devices simply plug into a PC's USB socket. For modern PCs (post Windows 98) this is probably the easiest option.

Laptops: Many laptops have a slot in the side which can take a PCMCIA network card.

Desktops: Internal network cards can be fitted in most desktop PCs.

NB: readingConnect assistants are not allowed to work on your PC's hardware. If you are unsure which type of device is best for your PC, or how to fit it, please consult your PC manufacturer or supplier.

The oldest software likely to be able to take full advantage of readingConnect is:

  • Microsoft Windows 98 (recommended Windows 2000/XP)
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 (recommended version 6)
  • Microsoft Outlook Express 5.5 (recommended version 6)

Other configurations might work, but our team are unlikely to be able to help you with them.
