Safeguarding your PC

To safeguard your PC and its contents from harm that can be inflicted from the Internet, you must keep your PC up-to-date with anti-virus and system software updates.

Failure to keep your PC up-to-date is a security issue for everyone using the readingConnect network. Any security problems caused by your PC might lead to its network connection being suspended.

To safeguard your PC you should

  1. Install all available updates for your operating system (eg Microsoft Windows) regularly
  2. Install anti-virus software and keep it up-to-date. Anti-virus software is available free from the University while you are a student
  3. Install Firewall software

Full details about all aspects of security of personal PCs can be found in the web document PC security on the University website.
